COLUMBUS, Ga. – Authorities in Georgia say a man who led sheriff’s deputies on a car chase has died after being shot with a stun gun.
Harris County Coroner Joe Weldon tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/1JJOVqi) 18-year-old Nicholas Tanner Dyksma died early Monday. An autopsy is being conducted.
Chief Deputy Neil Adams says Columbus police tried stopping Dyksma’s truck and pursued him when he sped toward Harris County.
Adams says the truck hit a patrol car and stopped on the side of the road. Adams says deputies broke the truck’s windows after Dyksma wouldn’t obey orders to turn the vehicle off. A deputy then used his stun gun.
Adams says deputies noticed Dyksma’s breathing was shallow, and he later died.
Sheriff Mike Jolley tells WTVM-TV (http://bit.ly/1N08Mqu) it appears that deputies followed department policies.
